Phra Chinnaraj Haliam
ChaoKhun Sri (Sondh), B.E.2494
On July 14, B.E. 2494, ChaoKhun Sri (Sondh) of Wat Suthat presided over the casting ceremony of Buddha Sri Mongkol Nimit, the main major Buddha statue of Wat SriChomThong, Saraburi Province. The temple has long been under the patronage of ChaoKhun Sri (Sondh) and his family members. And around 5,000 Chinnaraj Haliam amulets were concurrently cast as gifts for donors who help build the temple.

Bronze materials for casting Chinnaraj Haliam were so great, comprising:

a) Old accumulated bronze leftover from casting famous Wat Suthat's Phra Kring from B.E.2459-2483.

b) Bronze leftover from casting Chinnaraj Indochine B.E.2485.

Chinnaraj Haliams' reverse side normally were chopped with "Lang MokoNung code", but a large number of them are plain back without chopping the code. The above Chinnaraj Haliam is of plain back, but it's in complete condition with very sharp, beautiful Buddha image face. It's rare to find such a complete condition item like this one, but the most important is that the Chinnaraj Haliam is easy to verify as:

a) The content of bronze has pale-green latent shade as called in Thai amuletlogy term as "Nua Om Keow".

b) The front surface has small craters scatteredly, meanwhile needle-point trace have been seen on nearly entire front surface as caused by old-style traditional casting method of clay mold.

Chinnaraj Haliams were made by ChaoKhun Sri (Sondh). Consecration ceremony presided by ChaoKhun Sri (Sondh) himself, many senior Guru monks of Wat Suthat also invited to join, such as PhraKru Arkom Sunthorn (Ma), ChaoKhun  Sri (Prayad), etc.

Chinnaraj Haliams were also distributed to new shifts of Thai army soldiers expedited for Korean War (B.E.2493-2496). The amulets has shown their miraculous efficacies on life safty and invincibility in battle fields.

Chao Khun Sri (Sondh) was the closest disciple and successor of Somdej Phra Sangkharaj (Pae), the Supreme Patriarch. All incantation knowledge and Phra Kring creation formula of the Supreme Patriarch was successively passed to ChaoKhun Sri (Sondh) before B.E.2483.

Chao Khun Sri (Sondh) passed away in B.E. 2495 at the age of 49.

Miracles of Buddha Chinnaraj
Buddha Chinnaraj is one of the country's very important Buddha statues, and was placed many hundred years ago in the Vihar of Wat PhraSriRatanaMahadhat, Phitsanulok province. Buddha Chinnaraj statue has long been respected by all Guru monks of both old time and present days due to His great miracles.

In the old days, there were many long-year wars between Thailand and Burma (now Myanmar). In B.E. 2310 an ominous phenomenon happened, Buddha Chinnaraj was weeping ! Tears was flowing and dropping from the statue's eyes ! Not long after that Thailand lost her independence and was siezed by Burmese troops !

In B.E.2318 Burmese army seized Phitsanulok and the entire city was burnt but only Wat PhraSriRatanaMahadhat temple and Buddha Chinnaraj were safe and intact. Burmese troops tried many times to burn the temple but amazingly unsucessful !

Today Buddha Chinnaraj are highly respected by folk people across the country, they come to prostrate the statue and beg for help, e.g. wealth & fortune, carreer progress, university entrance, family harmony & happiness, illness healing etc. Dry petals of tribute flowers for Buddha Chinnaraj statue on the Vihar's floor are so efficacious--they are often collected by some people and boiled with water as for magic medicine to cure some illness very effectively by which the modern medicine is unable to explain !

Vocab:
Nua  = content
Om  = latent
Keow  = green
Vihar  = a building for placing Buddha statue
